Thor Johnson Memorial Commission
This triennial commission by the Delta Omicron Foundation honors the memory of Dr. Thor Johnson, National Patron of Delta Omicron.
2022
The traditional Dr. Thor Johnson Memorial Commission work was premiered Friday, July 29, 2022. The work, composed by Dr. J. Ryan Garber (left), is titled "Evolving Reflections for Alto Saxophone and Piano." Garber accompanied the saxophone soloist, Dr. Richard Scruggs (right), in this initial performance.

2018

2015
“Quadtych,” a work by composer Dr. Steven Rosenhaus (center) was premiered at the Delta Omicron conference on Thursday, July 16, 2015. The premiere was under the auspices of the Delta Omicron Foundation Inc.’s Thor Johnson Memorial Commission. The performance was given by Dr. Adriana Ransom, cello (left), and Dr. Tuyen Tonnu, piano. Both are members of the faculty at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. The work is in four parts and is based on a Moravian hymn tune, honoring Dr. Thor Johnson’s dedication to Moravian music.

2012
The premiere of "Rites of Passage," composed by Dr. Nickitas Demos and performed by Dr. Kenneth Long, clarinets (bass, E-Flat, and B-Flat), and Dr. Laura Gordy, piano, took place Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Delta Omicron Triennial Conference in Lexington, Ky. At left, Dr. Jonny Ramsey, president of the Foundation, recognizes Demos and the performers.

2009
Dr. The string quartet "Passages," composed by Dr. David Sartor, was performed at the conference's Premiere Concert on Friday, July 17, 2009. Sartor received the Foundation's triennial Thor Johnson Memorial Commission. At right, Sartor posed with the members of the Atlantis String Quartet, who premiered the work. 2006
The Delta Omicron Foundation, Inc. commissioned a new work, "Carmina Whitmania" by Dr. Marshall Onofrio (left), for its triennial Thor Johnson Memorial Commission in 2006. The work was premiered at the Delta Omicron Triennial Conference on July 29, 2006 in Bloomington, Illinois. Dr. Robert Hall (right) was the baritone soloist, accompanied by saxophone, flute, trumpet, trombone, horn, and percussion. Also in the picture are Dr. Kay Wideman, then president of the Delta Omicron Foundation, and Dr. Jonny Ramsey, then president of Delta Omicron Fraternity.
